Last week TREB released the sales data for October 2009. The Greater Toronto area recorded 8,476 sales, up 64% from October 2008. The average price for a home in October was $423,559 which is an increase of 20% compared with October of last year.
The strong sales growth was spread across many property classes from homes that would attract first time buyers to homes selling for over a million dollars.
Year to date sales were also up 9% to 74,721 sales compared with the first 10 month of 2008. The average price is also up almost 3% to $392,264.
While these numbers seem like a tremendous amount of growth, it should be pointed out that it was this month last year that the market began falling into a slump both in terms of number of transactions and the price.
